Classic Movie Series: Some Like It Hot

I have to admit something, before yesterday I had never sat down an watched Some Like It Hot from start to finish. I had only caught bits and pieces here and there. I am a big fan of all involved in the movie , Wilder, Curtis, Lemmon and Monroe of course. Billy Wilder is not only a favorite director but Sunset Blvd is an all time favorite movie of mine. Some Like It Hot is one of those movies that is effortlessly charming, that you keep a smile on your face from beginning to end. The comedy is great, I imagine each watch you pick up on a new joke or a line of dialogue, I’m somewhat embarassed this is my first complete viewing.

Favorite Movies of 2016: 10 Cloverfield Lane

For my second entry in my favorites of 2016 I’m going to talk about 10 Cloverfield Lane. When this first came I only knew who the cast were and that this seemed like a movie I wanted to see, I was not disappointed. The movie doesn’t waste any time getting started, you’re thrown into it along with the main characters having to deal with a crisis. The movie does a great job of keeping you surprised at not knowing if the real danger is the characters or what’s going on in the world.  Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays the main character in a role that channels Ellen Ripley from the Alien franchise. John Goodman plays a very mysterious, somewhat creepy character, one of his best in a long time. Great acting, story and a  nonstop thrill ride make this one a must see.

Favorite Movies of 2016: The Nice Guys

2016 is drawing to a close and what a year it has been,  I’m going to talk about my favorite movies of this year that I have watched and thought were great. Unfortunately many of the well known or heavy hitters I have yet to see but I’m working on that. The Nice Guys was one of my most anticipated movies to see and it delivered on all levels. Shane Black’s first directed movie “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang” has become one of my all time favorite movies, the Nice Guys is right up there with it. The story wasn’t as strong but I felt everything else hit the mark, acting, dialogue, the characters, etc.

Ryan Gosling (pictured above) was a scene stealer in this movie. He was great as the bumbling, idiotic detective that when given the push was a great private detective. Although great he didn’t overshadow his no nonsense partner played by Russell Crowe or his wise beyond her years daughter, played brilliantly by Angorie  Rice. The Nice Guys is a hilarious, fun filled ride that I highly recommend.
